Our Pop-promo is designed to look like a cinematic experience .We aim to create this by using small clips from the cinematic introduction from Assassins Creed and merging it with our footage. We are creating a cinematic feel to add some interest into the video as the story of the video is very simple and plain but with the clips from Assassins Creed we aim to contrast our sprint to the Bus Station with Altair’s sprint away from guards in the game. The Music in our music video is very important as we only have a few lyrics and I feel that our music makes up for the lack of lyrics with fast paced beats that rack up the tension In our music video. The images and music will match each other on screen with all changes in the music matched in the visuals, for example at the start of music video a boy is sitting in down in a crowded area minding his own business and when the music picks up his mate bursts in and tells him they must run to get to there bus. The images will be fairly dramatic with sprints and jumps in the video as they battle to reach the bus stop. In terms of editing the transitions between shots will be smooth with a blackout before each shot in some shots the camera will be blocked out by a person walking past or a object blocking the camera to make it look a lot smoother. We are thinking hard about keeping continuity but it is hard as we will be travelling around a mile to reach our final location and on the way will be running in all soughts of locations, but in editing if we need to we will flip or rotate our shots in Final cut Pro.The pace and rhythm of the music should be in time with the music but in editing we have to make sure the music is in time with our visuals to make our music video work. As I have already mentioned we are aiming to make our cinematography work well and have thought carefully about shot types .We have discussed together the storyboards and have all thought about different shot types with have thought about using foreground in shots and coming up with inventive shots for example we are thinking about using a shot of the talents feet looking from a first person view perspective Shots will be kept reasonably short and snappy as the music picks up as we want to keep up the tension and continuity between the music and visuals. The camera will not always be still either with different tracking shots being used on the talent as they race to catch there bus ,then train. For mise-en-scene we are using several different locations :College ,Outside College, Bus station, Train Station, Christchurch park and Orwell river (near train station). We are using several different types of location to keep viewers interest. The talent won’t be using any props but will have a Hooded jumper on similar to Altair from the Assassins creed clips to show the contrast between the talent and Altair from the Assassins Creed clips, the lighting is not very complex with most of the filming done outside so the lighting was already there, the talent will be on the move most of the time so won‘t be nominated for Oscar on there performances but they will have to keep serious and look determined to reach there destination. The sound is extremely non-dietetic although does show traces of Dietetic sound with lip syncing at times. The non-diegitic sound helps to keep up the tension and flow of our music video. We use sound effects at the beginning of our video with crowd noise to create that crowded/busy area feel. There is one sound effect at the end of video of a man shouting out “Why!” We decided to go with this in the end after much debate as it gives a light hearted end to our video and shows the despair of the determined duo who are short of luck. Our target audience for this video is mainly for older teenagers and young adults who are into raving music .I think this because the music is very fast paced and the beat makes the song what it is as the lyrics are few and far between. The music has some guitar in it but is definitely not in the style of country music and is more urban. I feel it also for more younger adults and teenagers as from a working class background. The video also includes clips from a video game which adds to interest for younger viewers, this also makes more for males and statistically males play video games more.
Evaluation
Overall our music video went to plan although we had a lot of problems with final cut pro because of our footage pixilated when we captured it .This wasn’t a major problem because as we used game footage in our video the pixilation fitted in slightly as it looked as if the cast where turning into the game so we just about got away with it. However when we burnt the video to a disk it over pixelated so much that the footage was barely visible so unfortunately we could not present our video on a disk so we presented it on a memory stick instead. Our music video did not follow any particular genre but i did try to make some lyrics and suggested about other ideas but others in the group seemed to overlook my views ,when in pre-production i did the original log sheets, location finders checklists and my version of the storyboards although george suggested he would do his own. I also went to each location with tom and took photographs of the location .From my lyrics as i thought we were struggling to make them i said we could go for someone running to get to the bus and from there the group built on the idea and therefore the were no real codes and conventions for our video the plus point to this was that our video is unique but the negatives of this are that we strayed from the topic a bit by not having lyrics and having a instrumental and the visuals represented more of a continuous journey rather than a music video .The pixilation unfortunately also damaged the cinematic feel that we were trying to create although we still managed to make it slightly cinematic as I can tell from the feedback in class someone commented there was “a good mix of shots” we were also complemented on our editing with comments like the “the cross-cutting was good” although on the downside some people commented that they wanted more of the “game footage” .People also said we “needed more lyrics” although they did say that the visuals did match the music.Other good comments about our video included: “good time-code effect” ,“connection with video game was good” and “good smooth sweeping shots”.Other bad comments about our music video included “cutting was sometimes a bit late” and “The video went on a bit” .There were no real comments about the codes and conventions of the video as they were not really any .Comments about the genre of music included “different” . If I were to make a music video again I would definitely try and stick to typical genre and there codes and conventions and would think carefully about my target audience and how I would want my video to look like.
